Unemployment hit its worst this lockdown. But one profession that has managed to survive these Covid times is Content Creator. To start with basics, a content creator is one who creates content whether it is blogs, YouTube tutorials, music, or art. It can be online or offline. With lockdown, what is making its presence felt stronger than before are Social Media Applications example Instagram, YouTube, Facebook to name a few.
With no choices left for people for leisure activities in Covid time’s people are forced to spend time online. People spend nearly on an average 6hrs 42 minutes every day. Shocking right. Because of this reason online platforms are becoming a new source of jobs now. The content creator is one of them. All you need is a skill and a smartphone or laptop to work upon.
Content creation is not as easy as it sounds to be. Irrespective of skillful you are proper research is required regarding what your target audience will be, current trends surfacing on the internet, etc.
Listing down the following steps that will help you to become better at creating worthy content -:
1.. The foremost thing is to identify the Skill — Skill can be anything be it painting, singing, or even handwriting. The important thing here is you must identify the skill you are good at. Try searching for skills that will make you different from the rest of your peers.
2. Work on the skill — After much research on identifying which skills suits you the best. The next step is to Work on the skills identified. Internet is an ocean of information. Go through various links, YouTube tutorials. Try incorporating them. Caution (Try not to copy and paste). Make it real rather than copy-pasting and making it your own. Look out for various ideas that will enhance the existing skillset.
3. Target audience — Once your creation has been identified and worked upon. The next thing is selecting the target audience. The audience will be viewing your content, judging, and expressing opinions on the same. The content created should resonate with the target market.
You have put yourself in their shoes. Think about how their thinking process works, liking, and disliking. Understand their motivation, education, and other related activities.
4. Time to make its presence felt online — The next after enhancing the skills, making it different from the rest comes selecting the online platform to publish your content. With the advent of lockdown, there has been a sharp rise in the number of social media applications. So it’s very much important to select what type of media you want to choose to publish your art in. If it's a blog people choose websites like Quora or to post their articles online. Or if it is photography or makeup tutorials people choose Instagram. Selecting the right media platform is important so as to reach the masses
5. Set a frequency — Frequency means the number of posts you will post in a day or in a week depending on the type of content Creator you are. We say quality over quantity. But in this case, it’s both. One shouldn’t post too less or even post too regularly. A balance should be maintained.
6. Stay current — Uploading content is not enough. It should be meaningful and relevant to the current scenario. One should be well versed with the current scenarios, market trends, or what’s making the headline in today’s times. For example, a Content Creator posted an article on winter styling when it was actually summer. So the post didn’t garner many views. DO. You Know Why?!!!! Because it wasn’t appropriate to the current situation. Posting the right content at a right time is important if you wish to make your content go viral.
7. Give examples — Support your content with real-time examples. It may sound boring or cumbersome but adding examples to your content makes it even more interesting and relatable for your users. It adds value to your content, makes it easy to access and intercept. So next time when posting your content, make sure it is supported by relevant and interpret verifiable examples.
8. Not make it repetitive — Content posted whether it's daily, twice a week, or month, shouldn’t be repetitive. People nowadays losing patience, content which is appealing, interesting, and supported by pictures interest them. Try making your content less repetitive and less boring. Try adding or creating something different or unique that users won’t even waste a minute clicking on the given content or post.
9. Clear Information — This is a very important step. Clear and effective communication should be disseminated. One should be clear as to what type of information to be distributed to its users. Clarity of words should be a prime goal.
10. Network everywhere — The more views the better it is!!!! Being a content creator, it’s important to know what your peers in the industry say about your content. Post your content everywhere. Networking helps you and your content grow. Lookout for every possibility to publish your content at. The more you grow as a person, the better your content gets at every juncture.
11. Be real you — Stop the habit of cut, copy, and paste. People look out for content that is more real and more authentic. Be your own voice. Add your personal element to every content you post. Make yourself different from the rest of the industry peers. People come for your content because of your personality.
12. Open to feedback — Never shy away from feedbacks. Feedbacks are the one that will help to make your content grow and reach the masses. Criticism should be always welcomed. Reading feedback isn’t enough, you must interpret the same in your content also. You should identify the reasons as to why the criticism was given and work upon the same.
Being a Content Creator isn’t easy as it looks like. In these COVID times, there has been tremendous pressure on content creators to post something unique and out of the box. All you need is to practice the above set of habits or rules whatever you may wish to call it and a good amount of sincere efforts.
Hope the blog helped you if not completely but in a small little way.
