Sex education is part of health and moral education.

It also supports psychological growth.

Oh shit! What I just wrote here sex? Why is it a controversial topic? Sex education is still considered to be a taboo in India. People never take an interest to talk about mensuration and sex.

Sex education is not only just about teaching sex, but it’s also how reproductive organs are built, about pregnancy, about the disease which can be transferred by doing sex.

Lack of sex education results in unnecessary abortions as people are not aware of contraceptive pills, condoms, and other means to avoid pregnancy. We must provide sex education to children when they enter teenage.

Reasons behind the lack of sex education are the culture and values of India. Teachers and parents both are hesitating to talk about sex in front of children.

Due to the lack of discussion about sex, Adults are also not able to talk about their sexual issues with others. This topic should not just be in schools but it should start at home as well.

We all need to understand that talking about sex does not sound vulgar but it is natural phenomena.

Here are different kinds of myths about sexual education in the mind of Indians.

  1. Encourage teens to have sex.

The objective of a good sexual education is to teach them about the psychological, social, and biological aspect of leading a healthy sexual life in the future.

Let them aware of physical changes, sexual abuse, birth control measures, and prevention of AIDS/HIV. These sessions don’t promote children to have sex at an early age.

  1. Sex education is not for children

People usually think that sex is an adult topic but it’s nothing like that, approximately 53% of children between ages of 5 and 12 have been sexually abused, they even don’t know that they are being abused.

It’s also Shocking that India’s rate of teenage pregnancy is 62 out of every 1000 pregnant women.

3.SEX education is not for men.

According to a survey about the children experiencing sexual abuse, reported that 57.3% were boys. Approximately 18% of Indian adult men surveyed. About 61% of HIV/AIDS patients in India are men. so sex education is not only for girls, it is for everyone.

4.If we ban sex education.

Children are naturally excited about sex. As children are not able to gain knowledge about natural desire which is sex from their parents and teachers.

They are trying to search it on other sources such as friends, movies, and the internet. Pornography is the most popular source for teenagers.

These sources promote rumors, misconceptions and don’t provide the required knowledge as these are only for entertainment purpose.

Sex is a very sensitive topic as it is still considered a taboo in Indian society and a topic not to be discussed openly. Sex education requires a positive and proactive attitude of education professionals.

We need to understand the importance of sex education in India which is the 2nd most populous country in the world.

In our schools, teachers are generally trying to avoid to talk about human reproductive organs, Usually, students are curious about this topic as they are not aware of this natural desire.

In class 8th there is a chapter of human reproductive organs, instead of teaching that chapter, Teachers say that this topic is out of syllabus which doesn’t make any sense.

Apart from all these issues, India is trying to find out the solution of sex education.

In the era of modern, Haryana is serious about women & child development, health development, and a taboo topic like sex education is set to be included in the state students’

curriculum.

Students will be taught to treat sex as a natural desire and as a disease. Children studying in 8th to 12th are being targeted for sex education lessons. The main intention behind this is to clear the stigma around sex and curb teenage pregnancy.

This will first be taught in the government schools and later will be carried over to the Anganwadis as well, This is

of course, laudable step by the Haryana government.

Sex education should be compulsory in every school.

Sex education should be the compulsion in the schools it will give the idea to students about the pregnancy, Intimacy, about sexually abuse. And it’s the science so neither culture nor religion is effected.

Group discussion about sex education

Sex education should be provided to everyone. So that teenagers can understand the nature of sexual behavior.

Open discussion on the topic of sex also helps to remove the hesitation of teenagers and they can easily talk about their sexual issues.

Indian society needs to change its behavior towards sex education

Our society has to remove this barrier of avoiding to talk about sex. Our society needs to understand the importance of sex education in today’s generation.

Our teachers and parents should clear all the doubts about their children without any hesitation. I know it’s uncomfortable to give weird explanations to children’s sexual curiosities, but it’s important to do.

Movies on sex education

Movies on sex education also help to understand the meaning of sex. In today’s generation is too busy on their phones and laptops.

Movies and videos are the best sources to provide the required information about sex. Due to the lack of sex education, Netflix introduced a show on sex education,

In India, Sex education sounds vulgar,

As it’s against our religion and culture,

we need to understand that it’s not a disorder, but it’s a wonder.
